save-money-300x200You may think that spending money on regular 6-month visits to your dentist is something to avoid, that you’d rather be spending that money on something else, but you could be in for a surprise. After all, your teeth are in pretty good shape, they’re not stained, and you haven’t had a cavity in several years, so it’s really no big deal if you don’t make it to a couple of appointments for a while, right?

Not true. In fact, even skipping one dental appointment can mean potentially significant problems in the not-so-distant future. Here are 3 reasons why proper dental care can actually save you money over time.

1. Consider major dental procedures. When you think about how much certain dental procedures cost, such as a root canal or bridge, if you skip proper dental care to try and save money, it will likely cost a lot more in the long run when and if you need these types of procedures done.

2. Floss, toothpaste, and mouthwash is not really that expensive. On average, you should expect to get three months out of your toothbrush, about a month with mouthwash (the large bottles) and a month from floss. Multiply that over the course of a year and compare that to some major dental work, such as cleaning, cavity filling, and more and you’ll see the savings add up.

3. A great smile can lead to more positives in life. When you have a great smile, you’ll have more confidence (research indicates). You will also have a propensity for promotions and opportunities that you might not have when you are self-conscious about your teeth.

Making the proper investment in dental care now can reap numerous benefits over time and it can, and often does, save money over time.
